I like to paint what I see – primarily landscape and architecture, giving my unique personal interpretation of a subject that speaks to me. My favorite way of working is within the landscape, en plein air. I paint in both watercolor and oil.
I love the luminous quality of watercolors, as well as the freshness and clarity of this medium. I work with watercolor paints to let them show their intrinsic qualities of transparency, fluidity, and vibrant color and to convey my own sense of subject through suggestion and impression as well as careful rendering. I want each of my paintings to have its own energy, liveliness, and style.
In my oil paintings, many of which are done on treated watercolor paper, I aim for economy of composition, capturing the essentials of the subject and using quick, sure brush strokes to create shapes and textures.
